The creation of additional retail at the Gregg Tract on highway 17 is looming larger than life for nearby residents and local retailers in Mt. Pleasant. Homeowners in Snee Farm, Wando Lakes and Montclair are wise to be concerned about even more traffic, estimated at 12,500 more cars daily, and decreasing property values with the addition of big box stores cozying up to their neighborhoods.

Love is in the air this month. Everywhere you look, there are red paper hearts in store windows, jewelry sales, promotions from florists, reminders to make reservations for Valentine’s Dinners. Not to mention the anti-valentine’s day parties, promotions and campaigns. But no matter what your stance on the holiday is, February 14th will arrive, rain or shine, single, dating, married or divorced. So we might as well show a little love to the place we live- and support our local businesses.

Every year it seems as though spring sneaks up on me. Before I know it, daffodils are popping up and I start to feel the pending sense of panic that I have not started any seeds or prepared my garden. The last few weeks, farmers have shared this sentiment with me as they plan their crops, secure their markets, and balance their finances. For many farmers in the Lowcountry, a big part of this planning includes a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.
