Lowcountry Local First (LLF) will host its 10th annual Eat Drink Local Month campaign throughout May 2022. The campaign will include a public Eat Drink Local Challenge, a Local Social and its 14th annual Chef’s Potluck fundraiser event. Presented by Limehouse Produce and Firefly Distillery, Eat Drink Local Month is an initiative to raise awareness of the positive community benefits of supporting Lowcountry farms, fishers, chefs, beverage producers and purveyors. Throughout the campaign, LLF will provide educational opportunities and events for the community to actively engage in eating what is ripe and in season:

  • Eat Drink Local Challenge: May 1 – 31 – Commit to shifting a minimum of $10 of weekly food spending toward local food and beverage sources. Sign up now as an individual or team and be provided with weekly resources such as market calendars, local recipes, community-supported agriculture opportunities, and more ways to make the shift to local easy and fun. Free to participate.

  • May Local Social: May 12 – This happy hour networking event hosted at MUSC Urban Farm is available to the organization’s current or interested local business members and employees.

  • 14th annual Chef’s Potluck: Sun, May 22 – The organization’s largest fundraiser event of the year, with 15 chefs, local beverage providers, live music, and the beautiful views surrounding Firefly Distillery in North Charleston. A new Potluck Insider ticket option includes exclusive access to indoor event elements, preferred parking and lounge areas. Tickets are all-inclusive and on sale now.

“Building awareness and meaningful relationships is at the core of what we do, and doing so specifically for the betterment of our local food system is crucial to the Lowcountry’s overall economic well-being” said Jordan Amaker, the organization’s lead campaign organizer. “Staffing, shipping delays and higher costs of goods are the top challenges still facing many food and beverage businesses, so this campaign will encourage our citizens to support local establishments but do so with patience and understanding of the many hurdles they’re currently facing.”

The 2022 Eat Drink Local Season is presented by Limehouse Produce and Firefly Distillery, and sponsored by South Carolina Department of Agriculture, Charleston Magazine, MUSC Health, MUSC Urban Farm, Steen Enterprises, Grassroots Wine, Edible Charleston, Rush Dixon Architects, Charleston City Paper, Sonitrol Security, Freshfields Village, Nelson Printing, Charleston County Parks, and Emerger Strategies.
