International African American Museum

Organization Overview
The International African American Museum (IAAM) is dedicated to exploring the history, culture, and impact of the African American journey on the nation and the world. The museum’s mission is to tell the untold stories of the African American experience, illuminating the diverse origins, struggles, and achievements of the African Diaspora.
Located at the historically significant site of Gadsden’s Wharf—where nearly half of all enslaved Africans entered the United States—IAAM serves as a space for authentic storytelling, cultural preservation, and genealogical research through its exhibitions, programs, and Center for Family History. The museum fosters a deeper understanding of African American history and its lasting legacy.
