Organization Overview
Based in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, Jim Booth Legacy Art is a second-generation art business focused on donating and selling select Jim Booth original paintings and art prints, with net proceeds from the sale of these items benefiting non-profit organizations. Jim Booth (1945-2021) was a self-taught artist and businessman, well-known for his ability to capture the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry in his paintings.
From 1977 to 2018, Jim and his wife, Virginia, owned and operated the Jim Booth Art Gallery. By the time Jim closed his gallery in 2018 after 40 years, he had sold over 200,000 reproductions and had an active database of 30,000 interested collectors from all over the country and from many different backgrounds. He intentionally priced his work reasonably so it could be attainable to many. Guided by an inner “beacon,” he was committed to being an artist in order to connect his community with the beauty of life in the Lowcountry.
Tracey Booth Owens, eldest daughter of Jim Booth and author of Beacon of the Lowcountry: The Life, Art, and Legacy of Jim Booth is devoted to honoring and sharing her father’s art and his legacy. In the book, published by Evening Post Publishing, Tracey catalogues all of Jim’s work and taps his own words to tell the adventures of his life as a self-taught artist, business owner, and philanthropist. The pictorial biography looks at Jim’s legacy via his life, art, and ardent desire to protect the Lowcountry’s natural resources both through his art and his devotion to causes that support the vibrancy of this pristine area.
To that end, Tracey Booth Owens, via Jim Booth Legacy Art, invites the community to experience the splendor of the Lowcountry through her father’s art and to give back to the same community that supported it. By donating select pieces of his artwork and making it available for all to enjoy and by selling others to benefit charitable organizations, she hopes to carry on her father’s vision.
