From First Steps to a Permanent Studio: Jameshia’s Kiva Journey

We’re proud to spotlight another inspiring success story from our Invest Local Initiative: J. Pink Studio, a youth dance program helping young people build confidence, discipline and creativity through the performing arts.
Meet the Story Behind the Business
For more than 20 years, Jameshia has taught dance in Charleston, creating opportunities for young people to grow both on and off the stage. She founded J. Pink to provide a supportive environment where students could develop their talents, celebrate culture and diversity, and express themselves through movement.
What began as a small program with 24 students has grown into a thriving dance community serving 70 dancers and their families each season.
Throughout her career, Jameshia has watched her students become confident leaders, college graduates, healthcare professionals, educators and professional performers. Their accomplishments have reinforced her belief that dance is about much more than learning technique. It gives young people the confidence to recognize their potential and believe in themselves.
As J. Pink continued to grow, Jameshia outgrew her existing space and began working toward opening the program’s first permanent studio in North Charleston. The new location will allow her to serve more students, expand her class offerings and create a lasting home for youth arts education.
With guidance and support from the Lowcountry Kiva Hub, Jameshia successfully secured a $15,000 loan with the support of 111 lenders. The funding will be used to purchase flooring, mirrors and equipment for the new studio, helping J. Pink provide more children with access to the mentorship, opportunities and life skills that dance has offered generations of Jameshia’s students.
