Summary:

Lowcountry Local First (LLF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the local, independent business community. We serve more than 600 local businesses and community leaders working to transform and model a sustainable local economy.

Provide your nonprofit bookkeeping skills to support a community of innovative, local, independent businesses and entrepreneurs. The Bookkeeper will start on site until they become familiar with the organization. Once the Bookkeeper has developed a firm handle on the organization this position can be mostly remote.

The ideal candidate should consider themselves extremely organized, excited about supporting and getting to know the local business community, and ready to be part of a lean and hard- working nonprofit team.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Weekly accounting duties including accounts receivable, accounts payable, Quickbooks entry

  • Prepare payables in Bill.com

  • Monthly financial reports to staff and Board of Directors

  • Manage bank accounts and monthly reconciling

  • Manage annual payroll tax paperwork

  • Work closely with third-party auditors to execute annual audits and tax filing.

  • Record donations, grants, and program expenses accurately

  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls

  • Assist with budgeting and cash flow monitoring

Skills & Qualifications 
The ideal candidate has:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred

  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment

  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and fund accounting

  • Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, or nonprofit financial systems

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to handle confidential financial information

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Benefits:

- Pro-rated PTO: 1 week of paid time off in year one, with increases based on tenure.
- Pro-rated PTO: 1⁄2 time pay for 15 holidays, including Dec. 24th through Jan 1st, and your birthday.
